About the Role

We are seeking a California-based Fire Code Review Consultant with deep expertise in fire safety design, code compliance, and permitting. This is a project-based consultant role supporting our internal teams with pre-submission reviews to streamline approvals and reduce rework.

The candidate must currently be working in or have recent experience at a city fire department, with a thorough understanding of local and state fire codes, NFPA standards, and their application in architectural and system design reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural, mechanical, and fire protection system plans to ensure compliance with fire codes

• Provide clear, actionable feedback to improve design alignment with local and state fire safety regulations

• Identify potential code issues or risks to help avoid delays during the city review process

• Ensure adherence to California Fire Code, NFPA standards, and applicable life safety regulations

• Consult with internal teams to interpret code requirements and optimize designs for safety and compliance

• Provide support on a per-project basis, contributing to timely and efficient project execution

What We’re Looking For

• Currently employed by or with recent experience in a California fire department

• Deep knowledge of California Fire Code, NFPA, and relevant local fire safety regulations

• Experience reviewing residential, commercial, or mixed-use project plans

• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate code into clear design guidance

• Detail-oriented and familiar with fire protection systems, egress design, and compliance review processes

• Based in California, available to support on a project-by-project consulting basis
