SIIHEYUAN

Description

In this project, the existing building has rooms on three sides and a courtyard space in the center. We get inspiration from the local traditional houses in south-China, and by adding volume, the building becomes a form of Siheyuan. While preserving the structure and external walls of the building, combined with the functions required by the new building, the internal space is re-divided. The newly added volume uses a large area of glass, which forms a contrast between the old and new buildings in terms of materials. At the same time, glass can provide sufficient lighting for the indoor reading space as a book bar. Glass represents modern craftsmanship. People walk along the stairs to the newly added outdoor platform, which is actually a modern interpretation of traditional culture.
